Black and white Web Planet images

The shot above clearly illustrates the difference between the tinted black and white photographs used in the original (top) and reprint (bottom) editions of the Tenth Anniversary Special.

Ralph was unhappy about reproducing the black and white pictures with the same heavily coloured tints as the original which, he felt really killed the images (especially the Web Planet picture on page 12).

For the 2004 edition, he made the images into 'duotones' in Photoshop, which, he believes, achieves a more attractive range of mid-tones, and better contrast. This is something which is easy to achieve in the electronic medium and would have been virtually impossible back in 1973.
