BBC Television Broadcasts 1963 to 2004

The listing on this page is probably the most comprehensive chronological listing of Doctor Who programming on BBC tv available anywhere.

The aim of this page is not simply to create a very long list but to put the programme in it's full context for perhaps the first time. Scroll down and see how the series was aired season by season and year by year.

It's fascinating to note that for the casual viewer many seasons didn't just consist of the episodes listed in any normal season by season guide but often included stories from the previous year, particularly in the 1970's and early 1980's.

For example Season 11 (Jon Pertwee) included edited repeats of The Green Death and The Sea Devils and Season 14 (Tom Baker) included The Pyramids of Mars and The Brain of Morbius.

What is more as you read this page you can use the linked season and story titles, as well as the Doctor's names, to jump to original Radio Times listings for stories and pages dedicated to each Doctor, season and/or year since the series' birth in 1963.

This page lists Doctor Who, and programmes carrying notable related content (but not Blue Peter because that would be far too big a task, even here), on BBC television.

We hope that you enjoy this guide to what we must now call the 'classic' era of Doctor Who. Who knows in a few years time we may be sitting down to compile a similar guide to the new series that will begin airing in 2005.
