Comic Annuals

This article is from the 1972 Countdown Annual. Countdown carried a weekly Dr. Who comic strip which was supported enthusiastically by the editor at the time. The photo's in this article show him with the cast of The Daemons at Aldbourne village, the location for the filming of this Season 8 story. The article is, to our knowledge, the earliest behind the scenes looks at the making of a Doctor Who story in print.

Two articles from TV Action Comic (UK)

One of these is definitely from 1972 the other is probably from 1971 or 1972!

Comic Annuals

The article below is from the 1974 Valiant Annual. "Valiant" was a popular weekly comic in the 1970's. In common with other British comics Valiant published a special year book or Annual, based on the comic, to coincide with the Christmas market. The 1974 edition of the Annual included a fascinating 7 page article that looked at the making of Frontier in Space.

It carried a number of behind the scenes photographs and interviews and gives us an insight into the making of the programme in the Pertwee era. It is perhaps one of the earliest such articles to appear on the programme.

Four decades of Doctor Who adventures in comics.

This section of
The Cuttings Archive gathers together a mere smattering, but we hope a representative one, of these 'comic cuts'.
