Radio Times: Seasons 4-6: 1966-1969

Patrick Troughton

Above: Patrick Troughton, the Second Doctor.

Patrick Troughton played the Doctor for almost 3 years, from November 1966 to June 1969.

During his time in the role the doctor fought many, now legendary, Doctor Who monsters, such as the Yeti and the Ice Warriors (not forgetting the Daleks and Cybermen!).

As a result of the many classic 'monster' stories in Season 5 it has been fondly nicknamed "The Monster Season". Some of the best remembered Troughton stories were a part of this season; these included The Tomb of the Cybermen (1967), The Abominable Snowmen (1967), The Ice Warriors (1967), The Web of Fear (1968) and Fury from the Deep (1968).

Sadly many episodes from the Troughton era are now 'missing' from the BBC Archives and only survive in audio and off-air photographic form. More details of these 'missing' stories can be found on our Missing Episodes pages.

Troughton relinquished the role to Jon Pertwee in 1969.

You will find a chronological, Season by Season, listing of each Troughton story on the pages in this section. Use the links above-left to view each page. If a listing is hyper-linked click on the text to view the relevant Radio Times cuttings.
