This above image represents the very first 'official' incarnation of the site in all it's basic glory!
Looking back to when the site was created back in early 1998 the amazing thing is that I knew nothing about HTML or web design (I now work professionally in the field!). I had been to art college so knew about design but looking back with a deal of foresight this makes the look of the site at the time, in my humble opinion, all the more awful! Let's be frank, it's not terribly good but it did the job.
I simply found a suitable WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, in this case a freebie version of Front Page that came with Internet Explore, and started building the site.
I simply wanted to create a site that contained all the things that I had looked for on the web and hadn't found, Radio Times and newspaper articles and other items from the 'popular media', so I created the website I wanted to see!
I was rather amazed, but very pleased, to discover that other people rather liked it too and the site gained a lot of hits!
There's not much to say, the code was bloated and was buggy, having been created in the free Front Page HTML editor, and the images were poor - again created with free software. Tables were utilised for layout but were used sparingly at this early stage.
