This is the version of the site immediately prior to the one now current.

The fantastic announcement of a new series of Doctor Who, for 2005, prompted some rapid action on my part and the site was readied for a re-launch in late September/early October 2003. The Cuttings Archive was stirring again...

This was essentially a very much amended version of the previous design. As mentioned on the previous page the period between December 2000 and December 2003 saw a substantial rebuild of the site. This, however, still left much legacy code behind the scenes but more on that below. Much of the content of the site has been edited and often re-written in order to improve it.

There were a great many more pages on the site at this point as a result of some quite large updates but the content of many pages had not been updated .

Technical Details

No tables in the new page layout, yes, no tables - as is also the case with the current design. All new pages are written in XHTML that validates with the W3C, is written semantically and layout is completely separate, being controlled by compliant CSS. However, this was just an interim build and was destined to be re-built to the current design for early 2004.

The site is now moving towards the point where all main pages will be coded in XHTML to W3C standards and will comply with basic accessibility guidelines. It's come a long way but there's more to do, all the same I'm very pleased with where we're going now.

No. of Pages: 1532.

Overall size: 112 MB (118,382,469 bytes).

XHTML version: XHTML 1.0 Transitional on all new and re-designed pages.

CSS: CSS Version 3 - all new and re-coded pages 100%.

W3C Compliant: Rapidly getting there as new pages added and old pages re-coded - all new CSS now compliant and validating.
